"The mind is a doorway...
...one that you can walk through if you wish."
The rebels mourn those slain at the Nest, and they recieve information that Merlin is sending a massive force to crush Havnor. A team of 44 Hunters is formed, and they set out to the Emperor's Isle to battle Merlin and his guardians. The battle is bloody and brutal, but in the end Arlocke's Heart destroys the Penrose blade, allowing Cassandra to slay Merlin with Startest. A new era begins. The Continent is Reborn.
The team travels into the case. They soon discover this place is a dungeon holding a powerful creature, a demon called the Devouring One. However, this thing was once a man: Benjamin Arlocke. Throughout the course of the dungeon the discover the story of young Ben, his tragedy stricken life, and his abusive father who even now keeps him trapped in this place. The group makes peace with fragments of Ben's past, and face Alexander Arlocke, defeating him and freeing Ben. He is grateful, and gives them a white rose ring as thanks. The party exits the case only to find the Nest is under attack around them. Merlin has arrived and the Valkyries are being slain as they attempt to hold him off. The team gets on the Cloudbreaker and Richter holds off Merlin. As Cloudbreaker takes off, Richter reveals that Citadel City was once an Oraxium mine, and uses his Polymorph blade to detonate thousands of pounds of it, obliterating the city. The Nest has fallen. Richer is dead.
A war council is held in Havnor as the rebellion tries to plan their next steps. Many plans are brought to the table, but everyone agrees that the Case is first priority. Rolm explains that Greykeep hid something beneath the city and Mankar suggests an expedition to the catacombs of the First Kings beneath Havnor. They head to the Lower Library and discover a great door sealed with Old Speech. A member of the Twilight Guard named Jorgenson is guarding these catacombs. He insists that Greykeep is dead and the message was a trap. Assassins appear led by a Mythivore and attack the group. They barely survive, but give Jorgenson enough time to retrieve a sacred item and help them escape by turning into his Astral Serpent form. The Assassins escape. Jorgenson explains to the group that their cause is noble but hopeless. The team travels on Cloudbreaker to the Nest but is ambushed over Fort Kaya by the Lord of Death: a beholder. Rolm is nearly slain but Jorgenson arrives to save him and the ship barely escapes the Dread Lord. There is little time left. They are being hunted.
High Marshall Reyden and the Lord of Famine are moving in to crush the rebellion of Havnor. Cassandra and her team join the rebels while Remus and Athena ride to meet the Dwellers. It is a bloody and brutal battle. Many fall in the struggle but Amaya and Rolm slay the Vampire Lord, while Cassandra turns the Conscripts to her side. Finally, Remus arrives with Van Graaden to finish off the enemies. Reyden, the Steel Golem, and the secret police escape, but the rest of the enemy are dead. The day is won. There is hope once more.
A wake is had for Dr Lucaene. Her sister, Amaya, arrives before and causes chaos, forcing Cassandra to have her locked away. Amaya is mad with grief. Marshall Reyden stages an execution in Citadel City and throughout the Continent captured Valkyries are killed. A war council is held and it is decided that a team will travel north by foot to meet with Athena's people. The Sigilian are famous craftsmen who might be able to decipher the use of this artifact. Lord Richter speaks with Amaya and brings her to her senses. They all travel north. There is a skirmish with a small Conscript checkpoint. The group also encounters a strange pit radiating dark energy. They all pass through Fort Kaya, which is controlled by a Basilisk. The monster traps them, forcing Cassandra to use her pyromancy. Afterwards, the team stumbles into the Vale and meet with an ancient being named Penrose, who gives gifts and advice. Finally, a team goes to scout out Havnor, which is having a rebellion. They meet with the Black and White, who are Percy van Ascalon and Brother Bates. The rebels beg for help, and the team realizes that another army has arrived to crush this revolution. Now, Marshall Reyden and Lord Famine will come upon this city like a hurricane.
Kiliana, Remus, Rolm, and Athena fly to the Ild Battlefield to meet with Captain Theodore. He and some Valkyries have investigated Kiliana's vision and found something. Merlin is desperately trying to retrieve this case. The team gets the case and attempts to get to the Southern Academy where they can be picked up by the ESS Cloudbreaker. Merlins forces hunted them. Athena and Kiliana are interrogated by Dream Alchemists (led by Mistress Reyden) and the whole group is chased by a forest fire. Eventually they arrive at the Academy, only to find the remains of an ambush that was waiting for them. The team travels into the Academy with the hopes of finding a teleportation painting in the Gallery. They soon realize that something is wrong as they begin to hear voices. The Academy is controlled by a monster. The team encounters this evil thing, realizing that it is the twisted form of Lothir. He has gone mad, imprisoned Kell, and turned Ladrian into a monster. The group barely wins the day, and Dr Lucaene is slain in battle. Lothir is killed, while Ladrian and Kell are rescued. As the heroes emerge from the workshop they are met by Merlin. The Emperor is waiting to ambush Cloudbreaker so he can ride back to the Nest and clear out the rebels. However, the joke is on him. Cassandra, in her suit of Soul Mail, is alive and kicking. She holds of Merlin and his troops and the group escapes on the zeppelin. For the first time, Merlin is afraid. There is finally hope in the darkness.
The group returns to the Quartz Isles (which have been captured by the Sudari) to meet with Elxa Stratta. He was badly injured during the Western Landings. Merlin appears during a war meeting and mocks those present, showing he could slay them at will. The Emperor offers them peace if they leave the continent alone and disappears. The Elxa provides Richter and his task force plenty of resources, including a stealth zeppelin called the Cloudbreaker. Dr Lucaene, Rolm, Roderick, Val, Charly, Master Gerald, go to Lord Richter's secret base in Citadel City (called the Nest). A strike team is formed to rescue the statue of Flamerunner and the body of Odin from the Citadel. They stage an elaborate set of heists, including, but not limited to... seduction, distraction, lying, stealing, disguising, fighting, and more! Eventually, they succeed (however, they went into debt with the Cartel). During one of the heists they meet a warrior woman named Athena, who decides to join them. Finally, they engaged a group of Fallen Knights to save a village.
Kiliana, Remus, and Rolm make their way to the Wilds. They quickly encounter a mercenary by the name of Roderick who is the Lightning Alchemist. They help him find his brother who he promptly kills. The team meets up with Barbara near the shipwreck of the USS Completely Unsinkable. They all board the Mystic Train, an ancient magical vehicle that travels throughout the Wilds. After a variety of odd experiences they arrive at Myra, the central island of the Wilds. The group travels through the woods for a bit until they arrive at Heart's Hold, the first fortress. The city is ancient, huge, and mostly empty. They meet a Shapedancer named Valen, and save Charly (the soul smith) from an assassination attempt. Kiliana meets a Dark Chemist by the name of Gerald, and convinces him to (grudgingly) take her on as an apprentice. Remus meets Madame Lancaster. Kiliana takes Charly on a date and they become a couple. The whole team meets the All Mage, a powerful being that rules Heart's Hold. The All Mage gives them all prophecies and tells them they must leave Heart's Hold in six months. The team spends their time well. Remus trains with a band of Kanave. Eventually they all travel (with Master Gerald, Charly, and Val) to the edge of Myra. There they are picked up by a Sudari Zeppelin. It is revealed that two years of passed, and that the Sudari have been defeated in a great battle, with 900,000 deaths and 100,000 prisoners. Merlin is waiting...
